Towards a next-generation landslide early warning system
This project aims to establish a novel early warning system for landslide risk management, going far beyond the current state of practice that usually relies on the conventional velocity threshold and inverse velocity methods. The project outcomes will support landslide prediction and mitigation efforts of the Norwegian Water Resources and Energy Directorate (NVE). The following specific goals are defined for the project.
-
Goal 1: Develop a robust landslide early warning system integrating a suite of diagnostic tools for assessing and forecasting active landslides with uncertainty quantified.
-
Goal 2: Examine the new early warning system through pseudo-prospective forecasting of historical landslide events based on available displacement time series data.
-
Goal 3: Test the new early warning system for diagnosing and forecasting ongoing landslide events in (near) real time based on progressively available displacement time series data.
